R 880 Versailles (P.M.)

17th century – Pau museum

cm 170 x 148 (67” x 58”)

Probably one of the finest tapestries ever produced – from the series “King’s Castles”. The palace of Versailles is represented inside a sumptuous frame made of two columns and a banister with a profusion of flowers and fruit. Knights on horseback with their dogs completes an absorbing portrait of French nobility in the 17th century.
